What is Fitness Pilates?

Fitness Pilates utilises all of the principals and applies the fundamental Pilates technique found in traditional Pilates aiming to offset musculoskeletal imbalances. It's designed to enhance core stability, strength, and flexibility and strengthen weakened pelvic floor muscles.

Fitness Pilates integrates a mix of original exercises and ideas with modern research and updated techniques that are suitable for a group class.
The mat based exercises provide gentle all over body conditioning, to enhance core strength and improve muscle tone, balance and flexibility and to strengthen weakened pelvic floor muscles.

The exercises are a combination of slow, controlled and dynamic standing and floor work exercises with and without the use of equipment.

Adaptations are given for beginners, intermediate and advanced levels so anyone is welcome. It's great for people returning to fitness and especially great for all those new mums out there to help regain shape and strength in the core area.

What do I wear to a class and need to bring with me?

Wear comfortable trousers that will give, jogging bottoms or leggings are ideal or flared style yoga trousers; a comfy top and a second warmer top to put on at end for relaxation. No footwear is worn for the class however you can wear socks. You can bring your own pilates/yoga mat or borrow one from me, and a bottle of water for you to drink and re-hydrate yourself.

What does the class consist of?

  • A standing warm-up to mobilise the joints, warm us and to get us moving
  • Standing routine focusing on correct posture and core stability
  • Floor work - this is where we will really start to work to improve our alignment by working through controlled movements focusing on the abdominals, back and pelvic area.
  • And finally here comes the best bit - RELAXATION!!!!! A little time for you to chill out.

Come and try one of my classes.

NB: Fitness Pilates is not designed for anyone pregnant or with severe back or postural problems without a doctors letter.
